FERMOY U16’S COMPLETE THE DOUBLE

Fermoy  6  –  3  Leeds, U16 League

The U16’S were crowned division 3 champions at Carrig Park on Saturday morning with a 6-3 win against a very determined Leeds side. David Morrison opened the scoring after just 30 seconds with a well taken goal. The lads continued to create numerous chances but just could not apply the finishing touch to increase their lead. The missed chances proved costly as Leeds equalised with their first real chance of the game to leave the score 1-1 at half time. The message from the coaches at half time was not to panic as with the amount of chances we were creating the goals would come.

Into the second half Adam Ronan put the lads ahead with a powerful header that the Leeds keeper failed to deal with. But back again came Leeds to equalise and with the lads needing a win to secure the league title pressure began to mount .A powerful run from midfield coupled with an exquisite finish to the corner of the net by Enrique Calderon put the lads 3-1 ahead but just when we thought the game was secure Leeds scored again to leave the score 3-2. A superbly struck penalty by Conor Barry gave the lads a two goal cushion but yet again Leeds failed to throw in the towel and scored again to leave the score 4– 3.With just 15 minutes remaining and only a one goal lead it looked like it was going to be a nail biting finish until captain fantastic David Morrison showed why he is surely the outstanding centre forward in Cork Schoolboys Soccer with two superbly taken goals to leave the final score 6-3 to Fermoy .David Morrison accepted the cup from the Cork Schoolboys official after the game and it was especially pleasing that the title was won at home with the entire squad of over 20 players present .To win both the cup and league and reach the semi final of the local cup has been a fantastic achievement and we can look forward to next season with great optimism.
Darren,Anthony,Liam and Pam would like to acknowledge the support received from the club and all the parents over a very long season and what a privilege it has been to have been involved with such a fantastic group of players over the season.
