Fermoy 3 – 3 Strand United, U12 League – Fermoy are League Champions

What a year!!After a very long season in which the weather played havoc with fixtures, we finally come to the end of what had been a gruelling season. After an away game on Monday last which saw the lads battle to a hard fought 3-1 win against Passage  they had to play again two days later and the lads were excellent on the night and ran out convincing 6-1 winners at home against Kilreen Celtic. After the game word filtered through following results elsewhere that our lads could not be caught at the top of the table and so with 3 games to spare we were declared League Champions!!
And so it came to Sunday last when in brilliant sunshine on a wonderfully prepared Carrig Park we played host to Strand Utd in our second last home game. A wonderful gesture from the AWAY team saw them create a guard of honour for our lads and clap them onto the pitch, a classy touch from them and a fantastic piece of sportsmanship from a really great team and management.
The game itself never really sparked to life for ourselves and tired legs certainly looked to come into play, but the boys battled bravely and twice came from a goal behind to get level but just couldnt get that elusive winner. A hat trick on the day from the very sharp Dylan O Sullivan who was just back from injury added to his ever increasing tally for the season. And so with the game tied at 3-3 the ref blew the whistle to signal the start of the celebrations and it was left to captain Bryan Shanahan to lift the trophy aloft in front of a large crowd of jubilant Fermoy supporters. Our boys could finally relax and enjoy what had been a remarkable year and one in which  they got their just reward after all their hard work, dedication and effort. It came almost a year to the day when the lads were heartbreakingly beaten on the last day of the season and something which makes this triumph even more special. The squad who played throughout the season were Adam Carolan,Rian O Murchu,Bryan Shanahan,Darragh O'Mahony,Sean Duffy,Cillian Fitzpatrick,Cian McGirr,Dylan O Sullivan,Roy Vitkevicus,Brian Lombard,Kyle Ettoh,Ryan O Mahony,Lee Walsh and Ciaran Cloney and of course team mascot Cillian O’Mahony.

A word of thanks to all the parents who have helped us throughout the year – without your help it just wouldnt of been possible. Also a huge thanks to Dave Ryan from Amber who looked after all of us after the match brilliantly and for which we are very grateful.
