Another 3 points for ever improving Juniors …
Glasheen 0 – 1 Fermoy, Junior League
Fermoy juniors travelled to Glasheen last Sunday morning missing a few players but playing a team who have also being struggling. Off the back of a good win last week Fermoy should have been confident coming into this game but the first have didn’t show this.
Right from the start Fermoy allowed Glasheen too much time on the ball and nearly paid the price on a few occasions. Going forward the final ball was always over hit and gave the strikers no chance on a wet surface. The Glasheen keeper collecting at least 7 through balls without any difficulty. However Fermoy did create a few openings during the first 45mins. Kenneth Dawson stole the ball from a defender on his own end line and floated in a very inviting cross which found Michael Brennock who in turn passed to the inrushing Barry Johnson who was unlucky not to keep his effort down and score. This left the half-time score at 0-0.
The second half saw a much improved Fermoy push Glasheen back into their own half. Fermoy’s back 4 were under little pressure but won every tackle and were a lot more aggressive. Dave Keating and Darren Quirke getting forward from fullback and Mikey Ahern controlling the centre. Adrian O’Driscoll in goal, always communicating with his back 4 and quick off his line. In midfield Mick Hennessy and Barry Johnson now started moving the ball wide bringing Andrew McCarthy and Chip Murphy into the game a lot more. This resulted in chance after chance as Kenneth Dawson, Barry and more just could not score. Kenneth in particular was skipping past defenders and unlucky on numerous occasions. In the end it was a penalty that sealed the 3 points for Fermoy with Darren tucking it away neatly.
This team are definitely building but will need to be a lot more ruthless in front of goal if they want to challenge near the top.

Fermoy Juniors just cannot seem to get their league season off to any kind of start after another defeat in Carrig Park against a strong Avondale United side. We got a dream start when after 5 minutes a good cross from Brendan Hagan was superbly volleyed to the net by Matthew Quish. Avondale took control after this and went 1 – 2 up until Sean Sexton made it 2 – 2. However, Avondale continued to dominate and 3 further goals secured the points for them and helped continue the ‘Blues’ poor league run.
