Fermoy U12s lost our first game of the season, going down 2-0 in the National Cup, to a Wilton United side 3 divisions above us. A lively start saw both teams battling well, with Wilton probably looking more comfortable on the ball. They got their reward, after their right winger too easily skipped past our defence, and put the ball into our box. The wet ball slipped between our keeper, Eoin Healy’s hands for their forward to tap it into an empty net. Fermoy got a free kick about 25 yards out, which Tiernan McCallister got on target. Their keeper spilled it and Brooklyn slotted the rebound home, only for the Ref to give offside. Wilton pressed again and got a penalty before half time, but the taker put it over the bar. Second half saw much of the same, with Wilton pressing for much of it. We looked dangerous when we got out of our half, but couldn’t create enough chances to make a difference. Wilton got their second goal about halfway through the second half, and then got another penalty. This time they got it on target, but Eoin Healy pulled off the save of the game, denying them a third goal. A lot of our boys looked tired today, with the exception of Tiernan McCarthy, who deserves a mention, because he didn’t stop running all game. Our boys came off the pitch disappointed, knowing they can play better than they did today, but Wilton are a well drilled team, who are 3 divisions above us. Let’s make sure we stay unbeaten in the league.
